How Often Should You Use a Sauna?

4 min read

A simple guide to weekly cadence, session length, and how to listen to your body between sits.

Start with two to three sessions a week

If you're new to heat bathing, two to three sessions a week is the sweet spot. It's frequent enough for your body to adapt — better circulation, easier sleep, looser muscles — without leaving you drained. Most people notice the difference within two or three weeks, usually in how well they sleep rather than how they feel in the room itself.

Once that rhythm feels easy, you can move up to four or five sessions a week. Regular sauna users in Finland often sit daily, but they build up to it over years, not weekends.

How long should one session be?

  • Beginners: 8-12 minutes in a traditional sauna, 15-20 in an infrared cabin.
  • Comfortable regulars: 15-20 minutes, or two shorter rounds with a cool-down between.
  • Never push past the point where the heat stops feeling pleasant — that's your ceiling for the day, and it moves.

A good session is two or three rounds: heat, cool down, rest, repeat. The cool-down matters as much as the heat. A cool rinse, a few minutes in fresh air, and slow breathing let your heart rate settle before you go back in.

Hydration is the main thing people underestimate. You'll lose a surprising amount of fluid in twenty minutes, so drink water before, between rounds, and after. If you finish a session feeling headachy or wrung out rather than loose and calm, you stayed in too long or arrived under-hydrated.

Skip the sauna if you're feverish, unwell, or have had alcohol. If you're pregnant, on blood pressure medication, or managing a heart condition, check with your doctor before starting a routine.

The goal isn't to endure the heat. It's to leave feeling lighter than you arrived.

Building it into a real week

The easiest cadence to keep is the one attached to something you already do. Many of our guests sauna after a workout, or make it a standing Sunday evening reset before the week starts. Pair it with a massage once a month and the effect compounds — the heat softens the tissue, and the treatment goes deeper.
